Bolt, an “all-in-one mobility app” that was started by an Estonian teenager in 2013, registered to lobby in Alberta to “advocate for fair and competitive vehicle-for-hire regulations and licensing policies which benefit Alberta drivers and consumers and provide a level playing field for all vehicle-for-hire operators.”

In Alberta, rideshare companies must apply to the registrar for approval to start operating in the province. The registrar will then deem whether it is in the “public interest” to issue an approval.
